Environmental Policy

From 1st January 2008 Adapa Ltd has committed to reducing its overall CO2 emissions and offsetting those emissions that cannot be avoided. Our policy is to offset carbon emissions relating to energy invoices and business mileage in each business quarter.

There is currently no global standard for carbon offsetting projects or methods. As a company, we want to bring about change in our immediate environment, but are keenly aware that currently the only offsetting projects in the UK are the planting of trees. Whilst this presents a long-term effective method of offsetting carbon (and improving the quality of our natural environment), we feel tree-planting projects take too long for their effect to be felt. There is also debate over whether or not paying for trees to be planted represents a true reduction in the planet's overal carbon levels - would the trees have been planted anyway if they were not paid for through an offsetting programme?

To satisfy our desire to both improve our local environment and have our actions take effect immediately, we split our carbon offsetting between tree-planting projects in the UK and carbon reducing projects in the rest of the world.

We add 20% to each quarters CO2 estimates to provide for emmissions that may not have been taken in to account, such as emmissions from office supplies and stock deliveries.

Environmental Action

Each quarter we calculate our carbon emmissions by using the energy consumption figures in our gas and electricity bills, the electricity consumption included in our monthly web hosting invoices and by taking a note of all business mileage undertaken in the quarter. The total CO2 tonnage for that quarter is then offset.

Details of each quarter's carbon emmissions and offsetting, together with scans of offsetting certificates, are available through the links below:
